THE TOP 25 FILMS

These cartoons have been painstakingly and scientifically ranked using a complex formula that factored in how many "Beautiful Olive Oyl" moments were in each film, how my email and mail correspondents reacted to Olive's appearances in each cartoon as they were growing up and how they react today, the ability of certain scenes and/or sequences to stick in the memory, and the historical significance of each cartoon.  And then, of course, when I was in doubt, I just picked the ones I liked the best.  For detailed descriptions of the ways in which the Famous Studios creators glamorized Olive Oyl, see part three of my essay, "sex, popeyes, and video tape," and my "From Drab To Fab" page.  The ways in which the creators also gave Olive Oyl an attractive personality and appealing character traits are detailed film-by-film on my Total Package page.

#25 ALPINE FOR YOU/
THE CRYSTAL BRAWL

	A comely Olive Oyl is exuberant and invigorated...
	...as she moves up in the world in Alpine For You.
"Hello, Cherie! I'm the guy to guide you!"
	The Olive that appears on Bluto's pupils as they pop out of the binoculars has a figure.
He finds her attractive in person, too.
	Olive makes a pretty...
...and even shapely "kissing yo-yo."
	And as we see the silhouettes of Olive and Bluto running up and down the mountains and between the crevices, she morphs from rail thin to having a figure and back again and so forth. This is especially evident when the footage is reused (and maybe retouched?) in The Crystal Brawl.
The Crystal Brawl added a short scene of the mountaineering Olive Oyl and Bluto.  Notice that Olive's face is more like the late '50s Olive Oyl and Bluto is more muscular than he was in the original.
	The added footage matched the characters as they appeared in the rest of The Crystal Brawl.

#23 KLONDIKE CASANOVA

	The Famous studios' Olive Oyl shows her Betty Boop roots...
...as she is a popular dance hall entertainer in this cartoon.
Olive has a figure and a cute, flirty face during some parts of her song-and-dance.
	Yikes!  What's Olive doing?!?  Not to worry.  She actually has a dishwasher's outfit on underneath.
She and Popeye not only provide the entertainment in their saloon, but do all the serving and cleaning up, too (even during their musical numbers). Olive: (singing) "'Cause I don't want to walk without you,  no sir - ee!!"
	A cartoony Olive still looks good when viewed from a distance.
When Olive and Dan McBluto are flirting over their soda and playfully fighting over the cherry, even though her face and hair (in some frames) leave something to be desired and are reminiscent of the Fleischer Olive, she is nonetheless cuter, better endowed, and curvier than the Fleischers ever made her.  (Besides, no matter how Olive looks, I had to include this sequence, as it is one of the sexiest of all the sexy/romantic Famous Studios scenes.)
Olive will briefly have a figure again later in the film as Dan grabs her outside the cage and when she's rooting for Popeye against the bears.

#24 THE FARMER 
AND THE BELLE

	The thrill of finding two potential new farm hands shows on Olive's pretty face.
Doing what they do best: Olive looks cute and Bluto brags.
	She remains cute as Popeye rushes in...
...and as she yuks it up with him after Bluto gets egged... ..and when Bluto snatches her.
	The artists made it seem as though Olive could have a future as a blue jeans model if she ever wanted to give up farming.  (And maybe after this traumatic experience, she will!)

#22 MISTER AND MISTLETOE

	Olive has a cute face as she and Popeye decorate,...
...as she meets "Santa" Bluto,...
	...and as she flirts with the guys.
'Twas the night before Christmas and all on the couch....er, all through the house...
	The famous (among fans) romantic tree trimming scene where Olive pours on the charm and the creators had fun with her pretty and inviting facial expressions. Bluto: Ah, My Dear, too bad Christmas comes but once a year. Olive: (giggles softly) Drop in any time at all, Santa!
She's even cute when being startled by Popeye's interruption.
	Olive looks cartoony, but appealing,... ...in the struggle and escape scenes.

#21 OUT TO PUNCH

	In an interesting twist, Olive Oyl is Popeye's coach/physical trainer in this cartoon.  And she's in decent shape herself.
The creators gave Olive a youthful countenance as she drives to the sports arena ahead of a jogging Popeye.

#20 BEAUS WILL BE BEAUS

Olive's face, mannerisms, shape, and stances are appealing at points in the cartoon.
	Bluto is being gallant and Olive is eating it up...
...but here comes Popeye to intervene.
	An Olive with feminine eyes wants Popeye to keep his promise.
Something tells me they are in the mood for more than swimming and getting a tan!
	"Isn't the beach romantic, Olive?"
Boys from the Baby Boomer era envied Bluto when he was with Olive on the sand.
	In this cartoon, to use an old expression, Olive's beautiful when she's angry...
...when she's getting ready to dive,...
	...and when she emerges after her dive.
Bluto:  How about a shore dinner, Gorgeous? Olive: Why, shore! (More envy on the part of the boys!)
	Popeye thinks Olive is worth getting beat up for!
Popeye loves that spinach (and the long-lashed Olive)!
