About MTCNet

In order to meet the information access needs of Northwest Iowa, Mutual Telephone Company has developed MTCNet, a local Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Mutual Telephone Company has entered into this venture in partnership with the local college in Sioux Center which is Dordt College. Mutual provides the hardware, including telecommunications circuits, routers, switches, modem banks, and the servers. Dordt College provides consulting, system administration and technical support. It is because of this partnership that MTCNet can provide low cost, high quality dialup and high speed Internet access for the local community and surrounding areas.

Technically speaking, MTCNet provides the Sioux Center area with several T.1 (1.544Mbps) links to the Internet. MTCNet can provide dialup access, DSL, cable or dedicated links (56Kbps or T.1) for area businesses, individuals and non-profit organizations. Not all areas have all services available. Dialup access is provided via PPP to a bank of hundreds of 56K modems. The server is a Compaq Proliant 3000 which runs the Apache webserver and the MMDF Mail Delivery System on the SCO Openserver 5 operating system.
