Heritage Village


 

Children's Theatre Classes - These Saturday morning classes will be held at the new Public Library, October 18-November 22, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Taught by Northwestern College alum Tracy Pronk, these classes will provide instruction in voice, movement and imagination culminating in a fun and educational performance for family and friends. Cost is $20.00. For more information, call Tracy at 507-951-9063.

Breakfast with Santa - Centre Mall and the Recreation and Arts Council will sponsor a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 6. All children are invited to the Centre Mall to join Santa for free breakfast and arts-n-crafts.

A Doll's House - November 19 & 20 a troupe of local theatre artists will be staging Henrik Ibsen's famous play, "A Doll's House". Performances will take place in the Schoolhouse at 3070 360th Street - 3 miles north of Sioux Center of Highway 75 and then 1/4 mile west on the Carmel Blacktop.

Christmas At the Village - An Old Fashioned Christmas at the Village will be held Saturday, November 29, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Heritage Village. There will be entertainment in the barn, Santa & Mrs. Claus will arrive, wagon rides, cookie decorating and other activities for the whole family.

Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra 2008-2009 Season  

Northwest Iowa Symphony Youth Orchestra - Strings only this first year. Call 722-6230 for more information.

Heritage Village is connected to the Sioux County Fairgrounds, one mile east of Casey's General Store in Sioux Center. It is maintained by the Sioux Center Heritage Board and Threshers Association and open by appointment for tours and during the Sioux County Fair. Heritage Village includes the following historical buildings and attractions.

1. School House: Capel #5, the center school of the township, was built the summer of 1928 and was used as a school until 1959.

2. Church: Replica of the original church built in Sioux Center in 1877.

3. Doc's Cafe: One of the oldest buildings in Sioux Center, some say it was moved from the "old town".

4. Gas Station: Originally located in Paullina, Iowa. It was donated and moved in 1990.

5. Blacksmith Shop: The Brock brothers used this building for their blacksmith shop in Ireton until the late 1980's.

6. Sod House: Early Settlers used sod huts as their first homes in the 1870's. This one was built by Cadets in 1991.

7. Garden: Each year the Sioux County Master Gardeners grow vegetables, herbs and flowers in this plot and throughout the village.

8. Windmill: Was donated by Ralph Vander Berg.

9. Chicken Coop: This coop was built by FFA students in 1990.

10. House Circa 1900: One of the first houses built in town.

11. Orchard: A number of fruit trees have been planted to represent the self sufficiency of the pioneers. There is also a "tree walk" on the grounds with over 30 varieties of trees. A map of the tree walk completed by the Boy Scouts can be found at the school or the city office.  

12. Brooder Coop: Was used during the Centennial as an information booth. Later it found a permanent home in the village. It was donated by Charles Klein.

13. Noble Barn: Built in 2000, this is a reconstruction of a "Peg Barn". The main timbers were salvaged from a barn near Rock Valley.

14. Vreeman Barn: Was used for many years as a garage in town. It was donated by Larry Reimersma in 1988.

15. Louie's Leather: This shoe repair shop was moved to the village in ____.
