Dear Family and Friends:

We thought we’d try and make our letter more abbreviated this year.  Refer to the alphabetical “Maatman Glossary” to the right for any additional help.

Jack is a sophomore at DC where he recently decided to major in FP&C, this is a change from the double major in SE and ComSci. He plans to apply for a semester in the LAFS during his senior year.  Jack also bought himself a 1974 blue and white VW bus.  The bus, EELYE, is roadworthy now, after a new engine, shag carpet, and self-installed speakers.

Nicole (She prefers “Nicole” these days) is a senior at UCHS, a janitor at SCCS, and a post secondary education student at DC. She has participated in a couple TEC weekends during the last year. She also went to JAX this summer for SERVE.  She’s applying for START for next summer in Mexico. We think she’s an all-around GK!

John still works as MIS manager at Groschopp. His colleagues say that his most frequent solution to their computer questions is, “Re-boot!” (LOL) He claims that he really is working over there even though it feels like play and “MISmanagement.” He still travels a little for the Sales Department too—to IND and MDW. This spring he began a 3-year term as an elder at CCRC.

My job as OM at IAPCHE grew to 4 days per week earlier this year. My office is in the mezzanine at the BJH at DC.  I truly enjoy the work; this year most of my time was spent planning conferences in BUD and MNL. I even traveled to BUD for the July conference and loved meeting all the people I’d been corresponding with. I also enjoy the flexibility of this job and the more time available for family. I’m still part of the ELC at CCRC too.

Beside working and family time at home, we’ve had some other fun:

  • Celebrating my parents’ 50th anniversary in March at TCCRC.
  • A weekend in DBQ late this summer for John and me.
  • A family vacation to MSP to take in baseball games: ATL vs. MIN. (15 innings in the HHH Metrodome while outside there was a torrential downpour and high speed winds.)
  • My niece Heidi visited for 6 weeks from NC – this visit included the daily question of: DYMYBT?
  • John and I spent a wonderful afternoon with his parents sightseeing the Loess Hills right here in IA.

Well, G2G. We wish you all a MC and HNY. TTYL.
