Under the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the Division is the educational leader and chief administrative officer of the Division.  With the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the Division is responsible for the programs of the Division and its departments, and for the articulation of the College's educational ideals with respect to them.

Divisional/Departmental

The Dean of the Division is the chief administrator in the Division and is directly responsible to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for the performance of his/her duties and for the functioning of the Division in the following areas:

Leadership -- in the development and maintenance of the educational perspective of Dordt College and the quality and range of the curricular offerings.

Faculty recruitment -- as outlined in written statements of faculty recruiting processes and policies -- for both full-time and part-time positions in the Division.

Faculty personnel administration -- including:

• Faculty development in areas such as:
• Staff orientation
• Teaching effectiveness
• Scholarly development
• Professional development
• Evaluation of:
• Teaching effectiveness and competence.
• Scholarly interest and activity.
• Christian perspective.
• Community service.
• Departmental major advising.
• Recommendations for:
• Appointments.
• Reappointments.
• Promotions.
• Tenure.
• Faculty Development Resources.
Budget preparation for the Division in consultation with the department chairpersons.

Divisional supervision and administration -- The Division Dean will:
 

• Serve as chairperson at Division meetings.
• Supervise the performance of department chairpersons.
• Administer within the Division the policies and programs adopted by the Division, the faculty, authorized committees, the administration, and the Board of Trustees.
• With the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and, in consultation with the department chairpersons, prepare the listing of course offerings, assign faculty loads, and prepare the material required for class schedules, registration, and the CATALOG.
• Represent the division in discussions relating to the purchase of equipment and the renovation/ expansion/ addition of facilities for the division.
• Oversee administrative services needed for the proper functioning of the division and its departments (e.g., clerical and other support staff, supplies, etc.).

Institutional

Deans of the Divisions will serve on the Academic Council.
Deans of the Divisions will represent their divisions on the Long Range Planning Committee.

Teaching

Division Deans will be required to remain active in teaching so that they will not lose contact with the classroom.
