Key words: Fiction
Recommended Reading Level: Preschool and Grades K, 1
Theme: A young girl loves a stuffed bear despite his imperfections.
Summary: Sitting on the shelf of stuffed animals, Corduroy realizes, when a young girl points it out, that he is missing a button on his overalls. When night falls, he makes a long journey to another floor, where he finds a button attached to a mattress. In an attempt to claim one of these buttons, Corduroy makes noise in the sleeping store. He is discovered by a night guard and returned to the shelf in the toy department. The young girl returns to purchase Corduroy with the savings from her piggy bank and takes him home to love.
Strengths: The author brings to light the idea that imperfections can easily be corrected when a loving hand is at work.
Weaknesses: I can't find any. It's a heart-touching story.
