I participated during my tenure as Dean of Social Sciences. The date
indicates the year in which the project began. Several projects or assignments
are on-going. This list does not include regular committee assignments
or the regular duties
of a dean at Dordt College.
1997
Chair of Task Force on Committees. Mandated
to look at committee structure and function at Dordt with a view to streamlining
process and decreasing membership. Report completed in August 1997
with recommendations concerning Dordt College organizational structure,
committee decision-making processes, and committee membership.
Asheville General Education Institute.
Team leader of a group of social science faculty with a goal of developing
an interdisciplinary, team-taught general education course.
1996
Pew Charitable Trust Round table Discussion.
Participant in a Round table discussion about broad long-range planning
issues.
1995
Student Opinion of Instruction. Led
a campus-wide representative group of faculty to develop a form which serves
a dual role of formative and summative evaluation. Project completed
in May 1996.
Organizational Chart. Developed new
organizational chart for Dordt College. Convened a subcommittee of
Academic Council and Administrative Cabinet to review the Task Force Report
on Organization and Planning.
Search Committees. Served on the
Presidential Search Committee and Vice President for Student Affairs Search
Committee, the latter as corresponding secretary.
1994
Task Force on Information Services.
Wrote job description for new position of Information Officer. Developed
plan and gained acceptance for where the Information Officer should be
placed in the organizational chart. This was a sensitive issue which
involved considerable time mediating between different groups on the task
force.
Chair of Long Range Planning Academic Subcommittee.
Worked with academic members of the college long range planning committee
to develop parameters and guidelines for academic planning at Dordt.
This subcommittee met biweekly throughout the 1993-4 and 1994-95 academic
years.
1993
Secretary of Student Assessment Committee.
Along with several faculty and staff members, played a significant role
in developing an assessment plan for improving Dordt's educational program.
This plan was recently applauded by a North Central Representative as one
of the best she has seen. I have been chair of this committee since
the fall of 1996.
1992
Chair of Graduate Education Committee.
Chaired the committee while we searched for a Director of Graduate Education
and developed the program to the point where it could be taken over by
the new director.
1991
Chair of Task Force to Develop Graduate Education
Program. Charged by the president to assess the need for and
develop a Master of Education program. Worked with faculty to develop
a proposal from conception to implementation. Gained approval
for the program from the faculty. Worked with North Central Accrediting
Agency and Iowa Department of Education to gain accreditation for the program
from both agencies.
1990
Curriculum Task Force. Served on Task
Force to evaluate and revise Dordt's general education curriculum.
Report failed to gain faculty approval but led to new initiatives in general
education which have since been approved.
Task force on Organization and Planning.
Secretary of task force to evaluate Dordt's organization and planning process.
Led to a significant report on organization and planning which was adopted
by the faculty and administration.
